News Godspell on the Way to London

"Prepare ye the way of the Lord" is one of the best-known numbers in Stephen Schwartz's 1971 rock musical Godspell. Rather than relying on word-of-mouth disciples, however, the producers have taken out an enigmatic advertising campaign in the press, featuring black and white photos of the two male leads, "Neighbours" star Daniel MacPherson and singer Jonathan Wilkes.

The two men will alternate the roles of Jesus and Judas in the production which is expected at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre in March, prior to a tour that will end with a London transfer to a venue yet to be announced.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Jesus Christ Superstar, another biblical rock opera, was revived at the newly restored Lyceum theatre in London several years ago. Godspell may prefer a rather more intimate venue.
