Ronnie Larson's Peep Show isn't the only play in New York to switch the gender of its entire cast. Dan Goggin's internationally famous musical Nunsense comes back to New York, June 23, retitled Nunsense A-Men! and featuring -- you guessed it -- all male actors playing the nuns.

The story hasn't changed -- it's still about the Little Sisters of Hoboken forced to put on a talent show because a food poisoning incident has significantly thinned their numbers. But there's no Dody Goodman or Rue McClanahan in this mounting. The nuns will be played (in English panto style) by Lothair Eaton, Doan Mackenzie, David Titus, Danny Vaccaro and Greg White. Author Goggin directs the new version, presented by the Nunsense Theatrical Company in association with Joseph Hoesl, Bill Crowder and Jay Cardwell. Previews began June 13 at the 47th Street Theatre Off-Broadway.

Designing Nunsense A-Men are Barry Axtell (set) and Richard Latta (lighting). Felton Smith choreographs.

(Here's the weirdest part of all: this isn't the first time Nunsense went macho. Nov. 1997, a Brazilian troupe traveled to the Theatre at St. Clements and did their all-guy version in Portuguese.)

* The long-running Off-Broadway hit Nunsense and its sequel, Nunsense 2, are available on video under the Acorn Media label. McClanahan stars in the two-tape, one-package release, which is commercially available in major video stores. For information on where to purchase Nun 1&2 call (888) 606-3342.

The Off-Broadway original (3,672 performances) closed in 1994 and, until the Portuguese version last year, hadn't been seen in New York since its brief, holiday-time revival in 1995.

For tickets ($30-$40) and information on Nunsense A-Men! at the 47th Street Theatre call (212) 239-6200.
