Rannells, who has been shuttling back and forth between coasts doing TV ("Girls"), film ("The Intern") and Broadway projects, is filling in for Jonathan Groff, who is taking a pre-arranged one-month leave to appear in the HBO film "Looking," which will serve as the finale to the San Francisco-set series. Groff is scheduled to return Dec. 1.

George III is a comic-relief role in Hamilton, appearing from time to time to snark at the troubles of the American "rebels." The role was created Off-Broadway by Brian d'Arcy James.

Rannells' most recent Broadway appearance was in the title role of Hedwig and the Angry Inch for seven weeks in 2014.

Tickets are available for purchase via phone (877) 250-2929, online at or at the box office of the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 W. 46th St.). For more information visit
