News Good Vibrations: Richard Dresser Pens Libretto for Musical With Songs by The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson Richard Dresser, the playwright whose Rounding Third is currently running Off-Broadway, is penning the libretto to the new Dodger-produced musical that uses songs made famous by the Beach Boys, he told Playbill On-Line.

Dresser's plays include Below the Belt and Alone at the Beach. He said his original libretto has a beach setting but is not set in the 1960s, when the Beach Boys had their greatest popularity as pop poets espousing fun in the California sun. The musical is currently under the title Good Vibrations. Don Scardino (The Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All) is attached as director of the developing piece, Dresser said.

A workshop for the Beach Boys musical — the pop-hit songs are by Brian Wilson — is being planned, and a regional tryout might come before New York, the playwright said, though no timetable for production has been announced.

Dodger Stage Holding's current New York projects include Urinetown, Fame and 42nd Street.
