News Great Expectations — with Chalfant and Campbell — Opens Nov. 16 Theatreworks/USA's production of Great Expectations — starring Angels in America Tony nominee Kathleen Chalfant as Miss Havisham — officially opens at the Lucille Lortel Theatre Nov. 16. Previews began Nov. 8.

Christian Campbell, who was seen in both the Off-Broadway and subsequent TV film of Reefer Madness, co-stars as Pip. The remainder of the cast includes Kenneth Boys as Pumblechook, Kristen Bush as Estella, Emily Donahoe as Biddy, John Joseph Gallagher as Magwich and Paul Niebanck as Joe.

Will Pomerantz directs Great Expectations, which was adapted by Bathsheba Doran. The production will run through Dec. 3. The design team comprises Carol Bailey (scenic and costume design), Lenore Doxsee (lighting design) and Eric Shim (sound design). Michael Picton has composed incidental music for the production.

Great Expectations, according to press notes, follows "a young orphan boy through adulthood, navigating London’s society circles and his relationships with a wealthy woman and her haughty adopted daughter."

Kathleen Chalfant was a Tony Award nominee for her work in Angels in America: Millennium Approaches. Other credits include her lauded performance in Wit, as well as roles in Savannah Bay, Talking Heads, Racing Demon and M. Butterfly. Chalfant also appeared in the HBO Films version of The Laramie Project.

Christian Campbell starred in the Off-Broadway musical Reefer Madness and reprised his work in the Showtime movie version. He also appeared in the short-lived NBC television show "The Book of Daniel" and the ABC soap "All My Children." Other credits include the national tour of tick... tick... BOOM! as well as that show's London debut. Show times are Wednesdays at 2 PM, Thursdays at 10:30 AM, Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 2 and 7 PM and Sundays at 1 and 4 PM. The Lucille Lortel Theatre is located at 121 Christopher Street, between Bleecker and Hudson Streets.
