Authorities are still trying to decide whether it was an accident or a bizarre suicide, but an actor playing Judas in a Greek production of Jesus Christ Superstar got to the famous hanging scene -- and hanged himself.

According to a report from Reuters, 600 spectators watched as 26-year-old Anthony Wheeler suspended himself from a scaffold on the stage but then could not free himself when the lights went out. When lights for the next scene came on, Wheeler was still hanging there.

Dimitris Hatziyannakis, manager of the hotel in Chalkidiki where the Aug. 17 incident occurred, told Reuters, "We don't know how it happened. He had worked for us for three years. He was a pleasant, hard-working person and popular with his colleagues."
