Hersov first joined the theatre as an assistant director in 1980. His productions have included All My Sons with John Thaw, Look Back in Anger with Michael Sheen and The Tempest with Pete Postlethwaite. He was awarded the TMA Best Director Award for his productions of Romeo and Juliet and A View from the Bridge. In a press statement, he commented, "I'm proud to have played a part in the Royal Exchange story for the past three decades.
