Underestimated Pretty Woman’s box-office potential? Big mistake. Big. Huge!
The new musical adaptation of the 1990 comedy broke the house record for an eight-performance week at the Nederlander Theatre for a second time, taking in $1,155,322 in the week ending August 26. The show, which officially opened August 16, surpassed its own milestone week that was set in the week of August 12.
Perennial favorite Hamilton led the pack with $3,249,628, followed by the Tony-winning revival of Hello, Dolly!, which ended its run at the Shubert Theatre with a gross of $2,342,741 (122.53 percent of its potential) in its final week—its highest since the January conclusion of Bette Midler's initial stint in the production.
