News Groupies, a New Play About Celebrity Obsession, Gets FringeNYC Run Four New Yorkers and their individual obsessions with celebrities are at the center of Sharon Lintz's Groupies, a new play to run Aug. 14-25 at the New York International Fringe Festival.

Jonathan Warman directs the production at The Studio @ Cherry Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village. The play tells of celebrity obsessions with Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Kurt Cobain and Eminem.

According to production notes, "Groupies starts with a pop concept — celebrity obsession — then goes deep, offering surprising trips into the minds, passions, and sexuality of four very different people. Celebrity is the key into each character's psyche: the perfect entry point to understand his or her humanity, desires, regrets, loves, loneliness."

The cast includes Jeff Berg, Tricia Beyer, Damion Lee and Ralph Pochoda.

Playwright Sharon Lintz teaches writing at Queensborough Community College and the after-school program, HEAF (Harlem Educational Activities Fund). She recently completed her MFA at the University of Florida. She chronicled her first porn publishing job in the comic book, "Pornhounds #1" (pornhounds.net/samples.htm). "Pornhounds #2" will be out early next year.

Director Jonathan Warman is conceiver of White City, a new musical with music and lyrics by Pete Townsend of The Who currently in development, and a member of Emerging Artists Theatre (eatheatre.org) and TOSOS II (tosos2.org).
