Guy Stroman, of the original Forever Plaid cast, is the wise, comic Sewer Man in the new revised revival of Jerry Herman's Dear World, playing Goodspeed-at Chester/Norma Terris Theatre in Connecticut, Nov. 16-Dec. 10. The casting was announced Oct. 23, a day before rehearsals under began under director Richard Sabellico. Stroman joins Sally Ann Howes, who plays the Countess Aurelia in the 1969 tuner based on Jean Giraudoux's The Madwoman of Chaillot. David Thompson (Steel Pier) is adapting the libretto by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee and Herman is providing new numbers (some of them written in the years right after the show had its brief Broadway run). The Sewer Man is, in some way, the conscience of the piece — the wise observer who advises the Madwoman on what he has seen about society and how it functions. The show concerns the Countess' romantic, humanistic ideals vs. the destructive forces of capitalism.
Milo O'Shea played the Sewer Man in the Broadway staging.
