On Sunday, March 21, the Emmy-winning actress will be a featured guest on CBS's "News Sunday" at approximately 7:50 AM ET. Blanchard will discuss her role in the Jule Styne-Arthur Laurents-Stephen Sondheim musical, which marks her Broadway debut. Tammy Blanchard won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries/Movie for her work as Judy Garland in the aforementioned TV film. She also garnered Golden Globe, AFI TV and Golden Satellite award nominations for that performance. A New Jersey native, Blanchard's other credits include "Stealing Harvard," "We Were the Mulvaneys" and three years on the CBS daytime serial "Guiding Light." In addition to her Tony nomination for her role as Louise in Gypsy, Blanchard also won a Theatre World Award for her work in the classic musical.
Gypsy began previews at the Shubert March 31, 2003, and officially opened May 1, 2003. Gypsy received four 2003 Tony Award nominations, including those for star Bernadette Peters (Best Actress in a Musical), co-stars John Dossett and Blanchard (Best Featured Actor/Actress in a Musical) and Best Revival of a Musical. The cast recording of the musical — Angel Records — recently won a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album.
Gypsy plays Tuesday through Saturdays at 8 PM with matinees on Wednesday and Saturdays at 2 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. Tickets, priced between $60 and $100, are available at the Shubert Theatre box office (225 West 44th Street).
