Directed by Olivier Award winner Michael Bogdanov, the new musical will begin previews Nov. 21 at the Cooper Cohen Amas Musical Theatre. The official opening is set for Dec. 8. Lone Star Love or The Merry Wives of Windsor, Texas is conceived and adapted by John L. Haber with music and lyrics by Jack Herrick and contributions from Michael Bogdanov, Bland Simpson and Tommy Thompson. The Red Clay Ramblers — featuring Clay Buckner, Chris Frank and Jack Herrick — head a cast that also includes former "WKRP in Cincinnati" star Gary Sandy. They will be joined on stage by Tracee Beazer, Gary Bristol, Peter Connelly, Stacey Harris, Beth Leavel, Drew McVety, Emily Miksell, Nick Sullivan, Clarke Thorell, Julie Tolivar and Brandon Williams. Additional casting is expected.
In the play, ex-Confederate colonel John Falstaff and his merry men charm their way into the lives of two wealthy rancher's wives. Sandy plays Frank Ford, one of the husbands of those wives. In a romantic subplot, one of the rancher's daughters is being pursued by several suitors including a yodeling cowboy named Fenton.
The creative team for Lone Star Love comprises Derek McLane (sets), Jane Greenwood (costumes), Brian MacDevitt (lighting) and Tom Morse (sound). Randy Skinner is the production's choreographer, and the fight director is Malcolm Ranson. The Cooper Cohen Amas Musical Theatre is located in Manhattan at 334 West 39th Street.
