Actor Javier Muñoz, who plays the title role in the Broadway musical Hamilton Sunday matinees, has been diagnosed with cancer, according to a report in The New York Post.

“I was diagnosed in October,” Muñoz told The Post's Barbara Hoffman. “I spent about six weeks not wanting to think about it, face, it, deal with it.”

Muñoz, 40, didn't specify what kind of cancer he has, but confirmed that he has undergone surgery and radiation treatments. “I had never felt fear before like this in my life.”

Ironically, actor Leslie Odom Jr., who plays Hamilton's killer, Aaron Burr, organized a food drive for Muñoz with meals delivered to his home daily while he was recuperating.

He has missed several performances, with Jon Rua or Miranda going on in his place.

However, director Thomas Kail said there was "no thought at all" about replacing Muñoz. He continues in the show.

Muñoz has a long history with creator-star Lin-Manuel Miranda, having replaced him as Usnavi in his first Broadway musical, In the Heights. Miranda tweeted his support March 18, after the Post story hit the stands:
