Previews began May 29.

Law is joined onstage by a cast that includes Harry Attwell (Fortinbras' Captain/Priest/Cornelius), David Burke (1st Gravedigger/Barnardo) Ron Cook (Polonius), Ian Drysdale (Osrick/Voltemand/Messenger), Peter Eyre (Ghost of Hamlet's Father and the Player King), Jenny Funnell (Player Queen), Gwilym Lee (Guildenstern), John MacMillan (Rosencrantz), Kevin R. McNally (Claudius), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Ophelia), Henry Pettigrew (2nd Gravedigger/Marcellus/3rd Player), Matt Ryan (Horatio), Alan Turkington (Fortinbras/ Francisco), Alex Waldmann (Laertes) and Penelope Wilton (Gertrude).

The production was originally due to be directed by Kenneth Branagh, but according to a previous press statement, Branagh "had to step aside because of his commitments to the forthcoming feature film 'Thor' – a project he has recently undertaken." Grandage commented, "I am thrilled and flattered to have the opportunity to direct Jude Law – one of the leading actors of his generation as he takes on one of the most important roles of his career." Law added, "I feel privileged to be part of the Donmar West End season and to be directed by the company's Artistic Director Michael Grandage on Hamlet. It was Ken who brought me to this project and with his support and guidance, as one of the greatest Hamlets of all time, and with Michael directing, I can't imagine a better scenario for me, as an actor, to undertake the role."

Law, who last appeared on the London stage in the Young Vic's productions of Dr. Faustus and 'Tis Pity She's a Whore and previously appeared at the National in Cocteau's Les Parents Terribles (and its subsequent transfer to Broadway, where it was renamed Indiscretions), is best known for his film roles in "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Road to Perdition," "Wilde," "Sherlock Holmes," "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus," "The Repossession Mambo," "Sleuth," "My Blueberry Nights," "The Holiday," "Closer," "Alfie," "The Aviator" and "Cold Mountain".

Designs are by Christopher Oram, with lighting by Neil Austin, and sound design by composer Adam Cork. The entire run is sold out. Contact the box office at 0844 482 5120 for returns. There are over 30 day seats available which can be bought at 10 AM in person at the box office on the day of each performance. For more details, visit www.donmarwestend.com.
