The Room, which is described as a "comedy of menace," is presented at The Performing Garage. The limited New York City engagement precedes the L.A. debut at Redcat from Feb. 4-14, 2016, before it returns to New York the following season.

The Wooster Group is approaching Pinter's The Room via a Chinese comedic form called xiansheng, which the company, often gravitating towards Asian theatre, discovered on a research trip to China. "With the tone, inflections, and timing of the Chinese 'cross-talk,' [xiansheng] we’ve been working with the text of Pinter’s play," state press notes.

The work is one of three Pinter productions to be staged by The Wooster Group; the second is his mid-career play A Kind of Alaska, developed in collaboration with choreographer Mark Morris, to be followed by a play woven together from Pinter's Nobel Prize speech. The playwright was a recipient of the famed award in 2005 during his battle with cancer. Once all three works have been completed, the company plans to present them again in one evening.

The Room is helmed by Wooster's director Elizabeth LeCompte and features performances by group members and associates Ari Fliakos, Philip Moore, Scott Renderer, Suzzy Roche and Kate Valk.

The production also has lighting by Jennifer Tipton with Ryan Seelig; sound, video and projections by Max Bernstein; sound by Eric Sluyter; original music tracks by Omar Zubair; sound consultant and additional sound elements by Bobby McElver; and video and projections by Robert Wuss.
