What was to be an informal reading of J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two, to function as a fundraiser for the new East Street Arts Center, is now a free event for fans to come and discuss the new book.

To attend the reading, the company was requiring a $15 donation, and they were holding auditions to play characters from the play prior to the presentation, which was billed as an informal live reading.

According to Landless Theatre Company, the host of the evening, Harry Potter Theatrical Productions informed the company that they can not authorize this event as planned, “though they acknowledge there is gray area between a performed reading and a gathering of non-performers to read a purchased book together for fun.”

The August 20 evening at the East Street Arts Center in Frederick, MD, has now become a non-ticketed event where fans may mingle, discuss and celebrate the new book in the ways they choose. Details can be found at Facebook.com/events/1770494303223296.
