Joe may be drunk but he's a great philosopher, a bon vivant of the bottoms up school of life. Love! Valour! Compassion!'s John Glover stars as Joe in the Los Angeles revival of The Time of Your Life, William Saroyan's 1940 Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy, playing Oct. 27-Dec. 9 at the Skylight Theatre.

Glover won a Tony Award as two very different twins in Love! Valor! Compassion!. Recent theatrical credits include the title role in the musical Hans Christian Anderson and Brian Friel's Give Me Your Answer, Do! with the Roundabout Theatre. In January, 2002, Glover returns to New York to star in Athol Fugard's Sorrows and Rejoicings.

The Time of Your Life takes place in a tough dive no San Francisco's Embarcadero, populated by a regular crew of gin-soaked folk searching for and talking about their dreams. Joe, a lover of the common man and the cherish-each-moment philosophy, is surrounded by the lost people of the City by the Bay: a shyster native American, a wannabe dancer, a prostitute looking for a life in suburbia and Joe's handyman, Tom. Saroyan's best known work is the World War II novel, "The Human Comedy."

Gene Reynolds directs. An Emmy winner for the series "MASH," his other TV work includes "Touched by a Angel," "Lois and Clark," "Life Goes On," "My Three Sons" and "Leave it to Beaver." Reynolds was president of the Directors Guild of America in 1993 and then from 1995-1997.

Tickets are $20. The Skylight Theatre is located at 1816 1/2 North Vermont in Los Feliz. For reservations, call (310) 659-0741. — By Christine Ehren
