42nd Street Moon, the musical-theatre concert revival series in San Francisco, revives Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers' I Married An Angel, Dec. 1-23.
Previews began Nov. 29 at the Eureka Theatre. Lesley Hamilton reprises her role of Countess Peggy Palaffi, which she played when 42nd Street Moon first presented the show in 1995.
The 1938 tuner is set in Budapest, where a banker who is fed up with modern women vows he will not marry anyone less than "an angel from heaven." Enter Angel, stage right.
The score includes "Spring is Here," "I'll Tell the Man in the Street," "At the Roxy Music Hall," "A Twinkle in Your Eye," and the title tune.
Greg MacKellan directs, Berle Davis choreographs. The New York troupe called Musicals Tonight! presented a concert reading of I Married an Angel in Manhattan in September. The San Francisco company includes Martin Lewis, Marina Torres, Lesley Hamilton, John-Elliott Kirk, Amy Cole, Mickey Killianey, Catherine Sheldon, Ann Magdalen, Dale Hopkins, Kristin Price, and Kathleen Dederian.
Tickets are $13-$25. Eureka Theatre is at 215 Jackson, between Battery and Front. For information, call (415) 788-1125. Visit the website at www.42ndStMoon.com.
