News HBO Picks Up Aaron Sorkin Pilot, Featuring Jeff Daniels, John Gallagher Jr., Thomas Sadoski HBO has picked up Aaron Sorkin's currently untitled pilot concerning a cable news anchor.

The cast of the pilot features Jeff Daniels as Will McAllister, Emily Mortimer as MacKenzie, Alison Pill as Maggie, John Gallagher, Jr. as Jim, Olivia Munn as Sloan, Dev Patel as Neal, Thomas Sadoski as Don and Sam Waterston as Charlie.

The series, according to HBO, centers on a "cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, Thomas Sadoski) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements."

Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the pilot, executive-produced the hour-long program with Scott Rudin and Alan Poul. Greg Mottola directed.

An air date has yet to be announced.

Sorkin is the author of the Broadway plays A Few Good Men and The Farnsworth Invention.
