The VW Vanagon is a familiar site to those in the midtown area, featuring graphics of the logo and the "boyz" themselves on the sides. Altar Boyz producer Ken Davenport and Robyn Goodman have donated the van for the upcoming BC/EFA auction.
Bidding on the one-of-a-kind van starts at $6,000 for those 16 years of age with a valid driver's license. Also included in the package are 10 VIP tickets to see Altar Boyz at New World Stages Off-Broadway, 10 souvenir programs and memorabilia, photos with the "boyz" and the van after the performance, a backstage tour of the production, an autographed poster, a walk-on as the "fogger" in Altar Boyz' opening sequence, as well as an hour-long drive around Manhattan concluding with an arrival at the stage door with the cast.
A 2005 Outer Critics Circle winner, Altar Boyz is directed by Stafford Arima with choreography by Christopher Gattelli. Music and lyrics are by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker with book by Kevin Del Aguila, based on a concept by Marc Kessler and Ken Davenport.
In addition to the successful Off-Broadway production, Altar Boyz has toured the U.S. and premiered worldwide productions in South Korea, Hungary, Brazil, Sweden, Finland, Australia and Japan.
Altar Boyz currently stars Andrew C. Call, Chad Doreck, Jay Garcia, Ryan J Ratliff and Ryan Strand. The Broadway Flea Market and Grand Auction has raised over $6,551,418 since beginning in 1987. BC/EFA is the nation's largest industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. Since its founding in 1988 the organization has distributed over $110 million for services for people with AIDS, HIV or HIV-related illnesses.
