News Henry Hewes Design Awards to Be Held in November; 95 Artists Nominated Over 90 artists have been nominated for the Henry Hewes Design Awards, which honor designers for their work on Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway.

Categories include Scenic Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design and Notable Effects, which encompass "sound, music, video, puppetry and other creative elements." All nominated designs must have originated in productions within the U.S.

Lincoln Center Theater's production of South Pacific and Atlantic Theater Company's staging of Trumpery each received four nominations, the most garnered by any production of the 2007-2008 theatre season.

Originally titled the Maharam Awards and later known as the American Theatre Wing Design Awards, the awards were renamed in 1999 to honor founder Henry Hewes. The 44th Annual Henry Hewes Awards — supported by the American Theatre Wing — will be presented at a luncheon Nov. 14.

The Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee comprised theatre critics Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, chair; Dan Bacalzo; David Barbour; David Cote; Tish Dace; Glenda Frank; Mario Fratti; and Joan Ungaro.
