Classic Arts News Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter to Tour Vietnam Pianist Herbie Hancock, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and vocalist Nnenna Freelon will travel to Vietnam this week for a tour marking the tenth anniversary of the normalization of U.S.-Vietnam relations.
The tour is presented by the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and sponsored by the State Department, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, and the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. It runs November 22-30.

Hancock, Shorter, and Freelon will appear with a group of students from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at the University of Southern California. In addition to giving performances at the consulate and the embassy, they will lead a jam session and master classes at the Hanoi Conservatory and the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory.

"The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz is devoted to introducing people around the world to the uniquely American art form of jazz," said Hancock, the institute's chairman. "We look forward to sharing this music with the people of Vietnam in the spirit of peace and partnership."
