HERE has announced its 2016-17 producing season. The slate features three world premieres by HERE resident artists; two international shows from the Dream Music Puppetry program; the fifth annual Prototype opera and theatre festival; and the yearly Culturemart festival.

The season will kick off in October with Ship of Fools, an interdisciplinary theatre piece by resident artist Jessica Scott. The new work weaves live music, puppetry and music to explore the practice of “pathologizing women’s bodies and minds.“

Fellow resident artists Sara and Reid Farrington will debut their work CasablancaBox in April 2017. The piece uses the classic film Casablanca to examine the nature of art via a multi-narrative script and video score.

The third production by HERE resident artists will be Sean Donovan and Sebastián Calderón Bentin’s The Reception, with performances slated for next June. Part-theatre, part-installation, the new work follows six guests as they talk, joke, dance, drink and eat.

In February HERE will welcome Chile’s Silencio Blanco for a presentation of Chiflón, El Silencio del Carbón, a non-vocal marionette work based on a story about a miner by Chilean author Baldomero Lillo and the real-life mining town of Lota.

French puppet company Stereoptik will also debut Dark Circus at HERE next spring, performed by Romain Bermond and Jean Baptiste Maillet. The show is billed a dark circus with a light tone.

Prototype: Opera/Theatre/Now is scheduled to run January 5-15, 2017; while the Culturemart festival will take place March 14-25.

HERE is located at 145 Sixth Avenue, New York. For more information visit here.org.
