News Hip-Hop Theater Festival 2006 Hits New York City June 20-24 The Hip-Hop Theater Festival returns to New York City for its sixth annual event, June 20-24, featuring the New York premiere of Live from the Front by Jerry Quickley as directed by Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk's Reg E. Gaines among other works.

The event "unites the best of emerging and established hip hop artists from around the country in an arena that stretches the limits of theater, dance, spoken word and live music." Performances will take place at The Public Theatre, New York Theater Workshop, Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater's Joan Weill Center for Dance and more. Among the many presentations this year include the American debut of Brazilian B Boy Frank Ejara in Som do Movimento, Ben Snyder's Rock, Paper, Scissors, excerpts from Jennifer Cendaña Armas' Skinimin12, Chastity Dotson's Little Book of Battles, Edwin Lee Gibson's Five 'Til and Kristina Wong's Free? as well as staged readings of Dominique Morisseau's Retrospect 4 Life, Anthony Roman's The Vacant Sky, Ishle Yi Park's Angel & Hannah: A Love Story In Hip-Hop Sonnets and Zakiyyah Alexander's Etymology of a Bird.

In previous years, the HHTF has presented Bridge & Tunnel Tony Award winner Sarah Jones' Surface Transit, Will Power's Flow and more.
