News History Boys to Be Rebroadcast on BBC Radio 3 A radio version of The History Boys, Alan Bennett's much-heralded play about British school kids trying to get into Oxford and Cambridge, will be rebroadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Dec. 31 at 6:30 PM UK time (1:30 PM Eastern time in the U.S.).

U.S. audiences can listen to the broadcast online by visiting www.bbc.co.uk/radio3. The play was previously heard on Radio 3 on March 12.

The play is adapted for radio by Richard Wortley from Nicholas Hytner's world-premiere production of the play at the National Theatre's Lyttelton stage in May 2004. According to the BBC website, the radio version features Richard Griffiths (Hector), Geoffrey Streatfeild (Irwin), Frances de la Tour (Mrs. Lintott), Clive Merrison (The Headmaster), Samuel Anderson (Crowther), Samuel Barnett (Posner), Dominic Cooper (Dakin), James Corden (Timms), Sacha Dhawan (Akthar), Andrew Knott (Lockwood), Jamie Parker (Scripps), Russell Tovey (Rudge) and Jamie Parker and Tom Attwood (pianists).

The National's production won the Olivier, Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle awards for Best New Play. The production eventually moved to Broadway, where it opened April 23, 2006, and won six Tony Awards including Best Director for Hytner and Best Play for Bennett.

The play toured the UK and is now at Wyndham’s Theatre on the West End, where it opens on Jan. 3, 2007, following previews beginning Dec. 21. The UK touring cast reprises its roles.
