The RAW STAGES New Works Festival is part of History's new play development process, which consists of staged readings of four scripts-in-progress, performed by professional actors and directors. Audience feedback is used to help shape the script as it continues to progress toward future production.

Here's a glance at the festival's offerings:

Boundary Waters
Jan. 14 at 7 PM
By Carlyle Brown
Directed by Marion McClinton
"George Bonga is a fur trader and Voyageur of the Boundary Waters, living on the boundaries of Black, White, and Ojibwe. In the winter of 1837, over the course of five days and six nights George Bonga tracks down an Ojibwe man accused of murdering a white man at the trading post on Cass Lake. Is Bonga really tracking down a murderer or is he chasing his own demons?"

Debutante Ball
Jan. 15 at 7 PM
By Eric "Pogi" Sumangil
Directed by Randy Reyes
"The local Filipino-American community hosts an annual Debutante's Ball, an event filled with pageantry and elegance – plus a fair amount of teen angst and rebellion. Through hip-hop and Filipino love songs, this new play explores the struggles between tradition and assimilation, parental pressure and independence."
The Raw Stages reading of Debutante Ball will be a fundraiser for the storm relief effort in the Philippines.

Glensheen
Jan. 16 at 7 PM
By Jeffrey Hatcher
Music and lyrics by Chan Poling
Directed by Anya Kremenetsky
"The mansion. The money. The marriage. The murders. The mystery. Now – The Musical. Ivey Award-winning nationally acclaimed playwright Jeffrey Hatcher and Minnesota music icon Chan Poling of The Suburbs and The New Standards are teaming up to take on the story of the infamous Duluth estate that has piqued the nation's curiosity since 1977." Radio Man
Jan. 19 at 2 PM
By Garrison Keillor
Directed by Ron Peluso
"On a cold winter night, the creator of 'A Prairie Home Companion' is visited by his characters – Guy Noir, Private Eye, the cowboys Dusty and Lefty, residents of Lake Wobegon, and his own family ghosts, who are all dissatisfied with their lives – to which he simply says, 'Lighten up.' Song and dance is the cure. Cheerfulness is a choice. Sorrow is generic: what truly shines is comedy."

The RAW STAGES New Works Festival will be held at the 3M Auditorium in the Minnesota History Center at 345 West Kellogg Boulevard in St. Paul, MN. For more information and tickets, call (651) 292-4323 of visit HistoryTheatre.com.
