DreamWorks Animation in Concert — Celebrating 20 Years, featuring the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins, will be held July 18-19. Actor, comedian and writer Jack Black will host.
According to the Hollywood Bowl, "From Shrek to How to Train Your Dragon, DreamWorks Animation's great stories and beloved characters inspire and delight audiences of all ages. We celebrate the studio's 20th anniversary with visually stunning film clips of favorites such as 'Madagascar,' 'Kung Fu Panda' and many others on the Bowl's big screen, with their memorable scores performed live."
Hair, featuring a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot, will be presented Aug. 1-2. The musical, last seen on Broadway in 2011, celebrates 60s-era youth who are dealing with the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution and the exploration of drugs. An all-star cast will be announced at a later time.
Special concerts at the Hollywood Bowl include the July 4th Fireworks Spectacular, featuring Steve Martin, The Steep Canyon Rangers, Edie Brickell and the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by John Morris Russell, July 2-4 at 7:30 PM; a Grease Sing-A-Long, hosted by Didi Conn (Frenchy), July 13 at 7:30 PM; and a Sound of Music Sing-A-Long, hosted by Melissa Peterman, Sept. 20 at 6 PM.
