Holm won an Olivier Award and several other UK theatre honors for his portrayal of the headstrong patriarch who descends into madness. The play's director, Richard Eyre -- who restaged the work for TV at the Shepperton Studios -- also received an Olivier.

This Lear, which played a five month sold out run in 1997 at the Royal National Theatre, received its initial airing Mar. 21 in the UK on BBC2.

The rest of the cast includes Victoria Hamilton as Cordelia, Amanda Redman as Regan, Barbara Flynn as Goneril, Finbar Lynch as Edmund, Paul Rhys as Edgar, Timothy West as Gloucester, Michael Simkins as Cornwall, David Burke as Kent and Michael Bryant as the Fool.

Channel 13 will broadcast King Lear in New York. Check local listings for time and availability. -- By Christine Ehren and Rebecca Paller
