Peter Jensen directs the 1980s-set play, about "Eddie and Mickey, two ambition-driven, hedonistic casting directors who share personal and professional worlds in a posh pad nestled in the Hollywood hills, a place where business mixes easily with pleasure, and drugs, like women, are readily available. The two thrill-seeking friends are frequently joined in their pursuits by Artie, a slick producer with a penchant for pretty teenagers, and Phil, a vulnerable out-of-work actor with marital problems. Their relationship is further tested by Darlene, Eddie's occasional girlfriend, who playing fast and rough herself, goes from Eddie to Mickey. When a spaced-out exotic dancer Eddie has turned to for comfort comes to call, and becomes victim to Phil's surprisingly brutal behavior, an unexpected chain of events sends Eddie's life into a tailspin."
Hurlyburly was first presented under the direction of Mike Nichols Off-Broadway at The Promenade Theatre, before moving to Broadway.
The T. Schreiber Studio cast includes Margaret Dawson, Bonnie Dennison, Noelle Holly Hubert, Scott Roberts, Joseph W. Rodriguez, Michael Salconi and Peter Sloan.
Director Jensen is also an actor and teacher. He joined the fulltime faculty of The T. Schreiber Studio in fall 2003.
Playwright David Rabe's works include The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel, Sticks and Bones, The Orphan, In the Boom Boom Room and Streamers. The T. Schreiber Studio is at 151 W. 26th Street, 7th Floor, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 8 PM. Sunday matinees are at 3 PM. Also in May, The T. Schreiber Studio is hosting an event celebrating its 35th anniversary, a gala at the Harvard Club on May 17, to honor Ellen Burstyn and John Guare with the Studio's 2004 Outstanding Achievement Award.
Past recipients of this award include Marian Seldes, Mary Louise Parker, Gerald Schoenfeld, Anne Jackson and Eli Wallach, Betty Buckley and Roger Berlind.
