Classic Arts News Houston Grand Opera Opens Season With Samuel Ramey in Boris Godunov Houston Grand Opera opens its 2005-06 season tonight with a performance of Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov starring bass Samuel Ramey in the title role.
Performances of the opera run though November 5.

The production, by Stein Winge, was directed by Julia Pevzner. Tugan Sokhiev conducts in his debut with HGO.

The company's season will not include any new full-length operas, but soprano Audra McDonald will premiere a new short work by Michael John La Chiusa, on a bill with Poulenc's La Voix humaine, in March 2006. The rest of the schedule includes The Marriage of Figaro (October 29-November 12), Don Pasquale (January 21-February 4), Manon Lescaut (January 28-February 11), Carmen (April 15-May 6), and L'incoronazione di Poppea (April 29-May 12).
