News Hudes' 26 Miles Makes World Premiere in Atlanta March 20 The world premiere of Tony nominee Quiara Alegría Hudes' cross-country drama 26 Miles begins performances at the Alliance Theatre March 20.

Alliance Theatre associate artistic director Kent Gash directs the Atlanta production, which officially opens March 25 and runs through April 12.

The cast comprises Jason MacDonald, Bethany Anne Lind, Triney Sandoval and Socorro Santiago.

26 Miles, according to press notes, follows "a gifted, 15-year-old writer (Olivia) [who] is caught between her father and a clingy stepmother and is desperate to find her place in life and the love and attention she missed out on as a child. Olivia contacts her estranged Cuban mother Beatriz (her multi-ethnic parents separated years earlier), and together they defy the custody arrangement, striking out on a spontaneous trip across the country to Wyoming in search of Olivia's romantic ideal of the American West."

Designing 26 Miles are Kat Conley (set design), English Benning (costume design), William H. Grant, III (lighting design), Caly Benning (sound design), Adam Larsen (projection designer) and Celise Kalke (dramaturg).

Hudes received a 2008 Tony nomination for penning the book for the Tony-winning musical In the Heights. Her work also includes Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue (Pulitzer Prize finalist), Yemaya's Belly and The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl!
