News Human Race to Workshop Yorkey Musical Play It By Heart and Tenderly in July The new musical Play It By Heart, which features a book by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Brian Yorkey, and the Rosemary Clooney-inspired Tenderly, will receive developmental presentations July 16-18 at the Human Race Theatre's home in Dayton, OH.

Tenderly is based on the life of Rosemary Clooney. Play It By Heart has a country flavor. Also presented will be a full production of a new work created by area teens involved in the Lovewell Project.

Play It By Heart has a book by Yorkey (Next to Normal), with music by David Spangler and Jerry Taylor. It is described as "the story of a female country music star battling her family and a changing industry."

The cast includes Sharva Maynard, Leslie Jo Bissett-Hood, Scott Stoney, Jamie Cordes, Carlyn Connelly, J.J. Tiemeyer, Jerome Doerger, Mike Kennedy, Christine Brunner and James Roselli. Human Race artistic director Kevin Moore will direct, with musical direction by Jay Brunner.

Based on the life of late entertainer Rosemary Clooney, Tenderly is penned by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman. Signature Clooney songs included in the musical are "Come On-a My House," "Mambo Italiano" and "Hey There."

The two-person cast includes Beth Harris and Scott Stoney. Marya Spring will direct with musical direction by Yates Vogt. Arrangements are by Scot Woolley. The Lovewell Project allows area teens to learn about the craft of theatre and then conceive, produce and perform their own work for Human Race audiences. The piece will be created in time for presentation during the weekend.

The schedule follows: Play It By Heart (July 16 at 8 PM; July 17 at 2 PM); Tenderly (July 17 at 8 PM; July 18 at 2 PM and 7 PM); Lovewell Show (July 17 at 7 PM; July 18 at 2 PM).
