News Human Race's The Ambition Bird Flies in Dayton The Ambition Bird, a chamber musical by Matthew Sheridan about the poet Anne Sexton, will get a workshop presentation in the Human Race Theatre Company's Musical Workshop series at The Loft Theatre in Dayton, OH, on Jan. 22 and 29.

The Ambition Bird was part of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre’s New Musicals Festival in 2003 and the Cardiff International Musical Theatre Festival in Wales in 2005. Victoria Clark did a reading of the musical in 2001. Sexton will be played by Kay Bosse, who co-stars with Morgan Grahame, Scott Hunt and Scott Stoney, who will also direct.

Sexton won the Pulitzer Prize for her 1966 collection "Live or Die." Her other works include "All My Pretty Ones" and "Transformations," as well as the play 45 Mercy Street. She attempted suicide on several occasions, succeeding in 1974.
