News Huntington Theatre Has a Date with Becky Shaw Beginning March 5 Gina Gionfriddo's dramatic comedy Becky Shaw, starring Wendy Hoopes in the title role, begins performances March 5 at the Huntington Theatre Company's home in Boston.

Huntington artistic director Peter DuBois, who also staged the comedy Off-Broadway at Second Stage during the 2008-2009 season, again helms the production that will officially open March 10 and run through April 4.

"Peter and I have been friends and collaborators for over a decade," Gionfriddo said in a statement. "He's been with this play since the first draft – asking me all the right questions and pushing me to fully realize these characters and ideas. I'm thrilled he's bringing Becky Shaw to his artistic home, the Huntington."

In addition to Hoopes (Love Janis), Becky Shaw features Maureen Anderman (The Sisters Rosenswieg, Rabbit Hole) as Susan, Seth Fisher (Rock 'n' Roll, Julius Caesar) as Max, Eli James (The Four of Us) as Andrew and Keira Naughton (The Rivals, Three Sisters) as Suzanna.

"In Becky Shaw," Huntington notes state, "newly-married Suzanna and Andrew set up Suzanna's lifelong best friend, the sharp-tongued money manager Max, with Andrew's romantically-challenged, seemingly fragile co-worker, Becky. Despite good intentions, the blind date goes so badly that it ends at a police station. As their friends attempt to navigate their way through a complex emotional jungle, Suzanna and Andrew are forced to confront the instability of their marriage, and Suzanna is thrown into further turmoil by her caustic mother Susan's clear-eyed observations about the family. The moral ground shifts time and time again as crisis and comedy ensue, and a series of events are set into motion that forever change everyone's lives…"

The Huntington production reunites members of the original Off-Broadway creative team of Becky Shaw, including Derek McLane (set design), Jeff Mashshie (costume design), David Weinder (lighting design) and Walter Trarbach (sound design). Gionfriddo's plays include U.S. Drag, After Ashley, Guinevere, Safe and Trepidation Nation.

Tickets are available by calling (617) 266-0800 or by visiting Huntington Theatre. The Huntington Theatre Company performs on the Boston University main stage, located at 264 Huntington Avenue in Boston, MA.
