News Hurley, Lieberman, Mooney to Run Fulton Theatre's Spitfire Grill March 12-29 The Spitfire Grill, the folk-and-bluegrass-flavored musical about a woman with a past who invigorates a depressed small town, gets a new production by Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, PA, beginning March 12.

Patricia Hurley, Jeff Award winner Iris Lieberman and Ellie Mooney (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tour) will play the three women who operate a small eatery in rural Wisconsin.

Inspired by the film of the same name, the musical by the late Fred Alley and composer James Valcq had regional productions before a 2001-02 staging by Playwrights Horizons Off-Broadway. A cast album preserved the score.

William Roudebush, making his Fulton debut, directs the production, which plays to March 29.

According to Fulton notes, "To many of its residents, Gilead, Wisconsin seems more a prison than it does a home. They spend their days dreaming of how much better life would be if they were only living it somewhere else. Then, one day, off the bus steps Percy Talbot (played by Patricia Hurley) — a young woman with a past that she's eager to leave behind and future that she's chosen to build in Gilead, based on a description she read in an old travel guide. But Percy finds a population beaten down by adversity, no one more so than Hannah Ferguson (Iris Lieberman), the cantankerous owner of the Spitfire Grill, and Percy’s new boss. Hannah's decision to take Percy in is second guessed by the townspeople…[but] Percy comes up with a plan to help Hannah escape Gilead that also helps the entire town see for the first time in years just what it is that they already have."

The ensemble cast of seven is completed by Dan Folino (Sheriff Joe Sutter), Brian Kaisen (The Visitor), Andrea A. McCullough (Effie Krayneck), Wade McCollum (Caleb Thorpe) and Ellie Mooney (Shelby Thorpe). The production team includes musical director Ron Barnett, set designer Robert Klingelhoefer, lighting designer Paul Black, costume designer Beth Dunkelberger, sound designer Joseph Simon, properties designer Debra Dunlop, wig and makeup designer Anthony Lascoskie, Jr. and stage manager Nykol DeDreu.

"The Spitfire Grill" film (1996) was written and directed by Lee David Zlotoff.

The musical features music and lyrics by Valcq and book and lyrics by Alley.
