Hurricane Irene is being forecast to bring severe weather to much of the Northeastern seaboard beginning Aug. 28 and has prompted the closure of East Hampton, NY's Guild Hall, where the 7 PM staged benefit was to take place.

Naked Angels, which was producing the benefit reading, is aiming to reschedule Side Man, with its previously announced cast intact, at a later date this fall.

Individuals with tickets for the event can phone (631) 324-4050 for a refund or for a Guild Hall gift certificate for a future event.

As previously reported, Tony Award-nominated Next Fall playwright and former Naked Angels artistic director Geoffrey Nauffts was to direct the piece that aligned Tony-winning original cast member Wood, reprising his role as Gene, Quinto (Angels in America) as his son Clifford, Academy Award winner Leo ("The Fighter") as Terry, as well as original Broadway cast members Jeff Binder as Al, Kevin Geer as Jonesy, Michael Mastro as Ziggy and Angelica Torn as Patsy.

Side Man is described as "a tender and poignant memory play about a jazz musician struggling to save both his fading career and troubled home life during the dawn of rock 'n' roll in America."

Michael Mayer directed the 1998 Off-Off-Broadway production of Side Man, which later transferred to Broadway and earned the Tony Award for Best Play. The play was also nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Wood earned a Tony Award for his Broadway debut in the play.
