News "Idol" Finalist DeGarmo to Star in Oz, the Musical Diana DeGarmo, the "American Idol" finalist who made her Broadway debut in Hairspray, will star in a limited tour of Oz, the Musical, which is described as a "contemporary musical twist" on L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."

Written and directed by Todrick D. Hall, the musical is currently scheduled to launch Feb. 5 at the Abilene Civic Center in Abilene, TX. DeGarmo will play the role of Dorothy. According to a casting notice, rehearsals will begin Jan. 27, and the show will tour throughout Texas until Feb. 28. No other casting has been announced.

Diana DeGarmo shot to fame during the 2004 season of "American Idol." She made her Broadway debut as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray and also starred in a tour of Brooklyn the Musical. She had been scheduled to star in the Broadway revival of Godspell, which was later canceled.
