Bailiwick Repertory in Chicago is seeking proposals for theatrical, dance or performance pieces for Pride '99, its festival of gay and lesbian works scheduled for summer 1999.

Larry Kramer's world premiere, Just Say No, will be the centerpiece of the festival on Bailiwick's mainstage, May 25-July 1, 1999. Kramer is the AIDS activist, essayist and playwright whose The Normal Heart was one of the first plays to address the epidemic of AIDS in the 1980s. Several years later, he followed that up with the semi autobiographical, The Destiny Of Me.

Additional Pride '99 projects will play in the Bailiwick Studio June 15 Aug. 1.

New and innovative scripts are welcome for submission to Pride '99, and all kinds of genres and cast sizes will be considered. Most Bailiwick projects are director-driven (the theatre is known as a director's theatre) so projects with directors and or other artistic staff attached are acceptable and preferred. Other scripts without directors will be considered, as well, according to a spokesperson.

Project proposals should be sent by Jan. 25, 1999, to David Zak, artistic director, 1229 W. Belmont, Chicago, IL. 60657. Or call (773) 883-1090 extension 20 for details. -- By Kenneth Jones
