News In Lieu of Broadway On Broadway, Theatre Community Will Honor 9/11 Anniversary Members of the Broadway community will gather Sept. 9 in Duffy Square to honor the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York City. The event will replace the annual Broadway on Broadway concert.

A host of Broadway show folk will perform the Kander and Ebb classic "New York, New York" at 4 PM, on the traffic island in the north end of Times Square (where the TKTS booth stands). The event commemorates not only the 9/11 tragedy, but also how Broadway helped New Yorkers return to normalcy on Sept. 13, 2001, when the curtains again rose on the Great White Way.

Further details about the Sept. 9 event will be announced shortly. Inspired by and in support of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance, The Broadway League produces the concert with the Times Square Alliance and Theatre Development Fund. Visit 911day.org.

Broadway on Broadway will return for a special 20th anniversary edition in fall 2012, according to the Broadway League.
