A spokesperson for the theatre confirmed that Boevers will play Louise — aka Gypsy Rose Lee — in the musical, which will star Tony Award winner Patti LuPone as Momma Rose. Jack Willis, who co-starred with LuPone in the 1997 drama The Old Neighborhood, will again play opposite the actress as salesman-turned-agent Herbie. Additional casting is expected shortly.
The actors will join the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for three performances of the classic Sondheim-Jule Styne-Arthur Laurents musical Gypsy Aug. 11-13. Lonny Price will direct the production, and Paul Gemignani will conduct the famed orchestra.
On Broadway Jessica Boevers has been seen in In My Life, Oklahoma!, Les Misérables, Rent, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Beauty and the Beast. Her other theatrical credits include A Little Night Music, Way of the World, Private Fittings, Hamlet and Philadelphia Story.
Jack Willis' Broadway credits include Julius Caesar, The Crucible, Art and The Old Neighborhood. Off-Broadway he was seen in Valhalla, Arturo Ui, Iphigenia Cycle and World of Mirth. His screen credits include "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Cradle Will Rock," "Law & Order," "Third Watch," "Ed" and "Dallas."
Gypsy features a score by Jule Styne (music) and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) and a book by Arthur Laurents. The musical bowed on Broadway in May 1959 at the Broadway Theatre, playing 702 performances before closing at the Imperial Theatre, where it later transferred, on March 25, 1961.
