News In the Heights' Lopez to Host Very Special Benefit Jan. 21 Tony Award winner Priscilla Lopez, who will return to the Broadway stage later this season in the new musical In the Heights, will host a benefit for the A-T Children's Project Jan. 21.

Entitled A Very Special Evening, the benefit will be held in the Clark Studio Theatre at the Samuel B. and David Rose building at Lincoln Center. Lopez, who has hosted most every benefit for the charitable organization since its inception in 1994, will be joined onstage by co-host Louis Zorich. Show time is 8 PM.

A Catered Affair's Kristine Zbornik will perform as will pianists Natalia Kazaryan and Matthew Graybil. Attendees can also expect to enjoy a dance piece by Lynne Taylor-Corbett, featuring Yuki Osagawara and Kurt Froman; and tenor James C. Martin, composer Nancy Ford and the American Guild Ambassadors performing songs from Ford and Gretchen Cryer's show for The American Girl Stores.

The A-T Children's Project funds scientific research aimed at finding a cure and improving the lives of all children with ataxia telangiectasia. According to a statement, "Ataxia-telangiectasia, or A-T, is a fatal genetic disease that affects children at a very early age. This progressive, degenerative disease affects a startling variety of body systems. Children with A-T appear normal at birth, and the first signs of the disease usually appear during the second year of life. They are usually wheelchair-bound by the time they are eight or nine and rarely survive beyond their teens."

Priscilla Lopez won a Best Featured Actress in a Musical Tony Award for her performance in A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine and was also nominated for her work in the original cast of A Chorus Line. Lopez's other Broadway credits include Anna in the Tropics; Breakfast at Tiffany's; Henry, Sweet Henry; Her First Roman; Company; Pippin; Lysistrata; Nine; and The Sisters Rosensweig. She received a Drama Desk nomination for her performance Off-Broadway in Class Mothers '68, and she will be seen this spring in the film of "Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding. Lopez is a recipient of the Rita Moreno HOLA Award for Excellence.
