A car accident in Ireland has forced monologuist Spalding Gray to cancel an Aug. 5 performance of Morning, Noon and Night at the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, Cape Cod.

According to the Playhouse, Gray was vacationing in Ireland with his wife on June 15 when he was injured in a head-on automobile collision. Gray checked into a Dublin hospital with a fractured pelvis and a fractured eye orbit. He returned to New York on July 19 and is expected to use crutches for a while.

Gray's wife Kathleen Russo and three friends were also in the car at the time of the accident. They did not suffer injuries.

Morning, Noon and Night was to have been part of the Playhouse's new "Weekend Series."

Under the category of life imitating art imitating life: Gray's 1996 monologue Gray's Anatomy concerned the author's search for a cure for an eye condition.
