News "Inside Look" to Feature Casa Valentina Creator Harvey Fierstein March 11 "Inside Look" will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming Broadway production of Casa Valentina March 11 at 7 PM ET at the Jerome L. Greene Performance Space.

WNYC and WQXR’s special live event series featuring sneak peeks at some theatrical productions will feature Elliott Forrest talking with four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein in The Greene Space about bringing Casa Valentina — his first new play in 30 years — to the Broadway stage.

Here's how Casa Valentina is billed: "Back in 1962, most men went to the Catskill Mountains to escape the summer heat, but others took the two-hour drive to escape something else entirely: being men. Nestled in the land of dirty dancing and borscht belt comedy sat an inconspicuous bungalow colony that catered to a very special clientele: heterosexual men whose favorite pastime was dressing and acting as women. It was paradise for these men — white-collar professionals with families — to spend their weekends discreetly and safely inhabiting their chosen female alter egos."

Directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Wicked), Casa Valentina will begin previews at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre April 1, prior to an official Broadway opening April 23.

The cast of Casa Valentina includes Patrick Page (A Time to Kill, Spider-Man Turn off the Dark) as George/Valentina, John Cullum (Shenandoah, On the Twentieth Century) as Terrence/Terry, Drama Desk Award winner Reed Birney (Taking Care of Baby, Blasted) as Isadore/Charlotte, Tony Award winner Gabriel Ebert (Matilda The Musical, 4000 Miles) as Jonathon/Miranda, Obie Award winner Lisa Emery (Lonely, I'm Not; Iron) as Eleanor, Tony Award nominee Tom McGowan (Wicked, "Everybody Loves Raymond") as Albert/Bessie, Larry Pine (The Royal Family, "House of Cards") as Judge/Amy, Drama Desk Award winner Nick Westrate (Loot, Tribes) as Michael/Gloria and Emmy Award winner and Oscar nominee Mare Winningham (Picnic, Tribes) as Rita.

Fierstein's playwriting credits include Kinky Boots, Newsies, Torch Song Trilogy, La Cage aux Folles and A Catered Affair. His stage credits include Hairspray, Fiddler On The Roof, La Cage aux Folles and Torch Song Trilogy. He has performed in the films "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Independence Day" and the TV shows "Smash," "How I Met Your Mother," "The Good Wife," "Cheers," "The Simpsons" and "Nurse Jackie." Mantello's directing credits include I'll Eat You Last, The Other Place, Dogfight, Other Desert Cities, The Pride, 9 to 5, November, Three Days of Rain, The Odd Couple, Glengarry Glen Ross, Assassins, Wicked and Take Me Out.
