SEATTLE -- Anna Deavere Smith, whose Twilight: Los Angeles 1992 played here to such acclaim two seasons back will not have her newest drama House Arrest:First Edition presented at Intiman Theatre as originally announced for the coming season.

The theatre's press release states that the production will be postponed from, June 1998 to May 1999 "To allow Smith to take into an account the extraordinary political, legal, and media situation now unfolding in our nation's capital."

The postponement will also no doubt allow the author to regroup and rewrite after the play's less than warmly received Washington, D.C. premiere in November 1997.

Meanwhile, the Mark Taper Forum, which had scheduled the work for a slot in between the D.C. and Seattle runs, will present the piece as a workshop presentation instead.

No announcement yet as to what will fill the vacant slot at Intiman. -- By David-Edward Hughes
