NBC President Jeff Zucker recently announced that Vanessa Williams will join the cast of NBC’s “Boomtown.”

Williams, who was most recently on Broadway as the Witch in the revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods, will join the cast of the Peabody-winning series when it returns in the fall. Said Zucker, “Vanessa will join one of the most talented ensemble casts on television. We believe she will take this show to an even higher level.” The hour-long drama set in Los Angeles revolves around the lives of the cops, paramedics, beat reporters and city officials whose lives often intertwine. Williams joins a cast that includes Donnie Wahlberg, Mykelti Williamson, Neal McDonough, Gary Basaraba and Jason Gedrick.

A Tony Award nominee for her role in Into the Woods, Williams has also appeared on Broadway in Kiss of the Spider Woman and in the City Center Encores! production of St. Louis Woman. Williams' screen credits include roles in "Soul Food," "Eraser," "Dance with Me" and "Shaft."
