News Is Amélie Aiming to Enchant Broadway This Spring? The stage musical adaptation of the Oscar-nominated French film "Amélie," which is currently playing an extended world-premiere run at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, may arrive on Broadway this spring.

The New York Post reports that producers Tara Smith and Aaron Harnick (who is attached to the CA premiere) along with Triptyck Studios and SBR Productions, are currently exploring potential theatres for a spring Broadway arrival for the musical that stars "Les Miz" film actress Samantha Barks in the title role.

Amélie officially opened Sept. 11 and will play an extended run through Oct. 11. Read reviews here.

Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) directs the musical that has a book by Craig Lucas (An American in Paris, Prelude to a Kiss, The Light in the Piazza) and features music by Daniel Messé with lyrics by Nathan Tysen (The Burnt Part Boys, Tuck Everlasting) and Messé.

Here's how Berkeley Rep bills the new musical: "Embark on a mesmerizing journey with inquisitive and charmingly shy Amélie as she turns the streets of Montmartre into a world of her own imagining, while secretly orchestrating moments of joy for those around her."
