Islington Council has slashed its grant to the Little Angel puppet theatre, according to a number of press reports.
The oldest puppet theatre in the country, the Little Angel has trained generations of puppeteers.
It will close in two weeks time and, if alternative funding is not found (one of their problems is that a private patron has died), then the theatre may shut down permanently at the end of the year.
Puppet shows are a wonderful introduction to theatre for children, so the Little Angel deserves full support for introducing new generations to the magic of live performance. Given this, hopefully a public-minded company or individual could step in to help, if the Council won't change its mind.
