Directed by Joe Calarco (Drama Desk nominee for In Transit), the limited engagement continues through Jan. 29.

The cast features Kimberly Gilbert as Patti, Will Gartshore (Parade) as Jeff, Liz Mamana as Mo, Chris Stezin as Brian and Joseph Thornhill.

The Religion Thing, according to Theater J, "introduces audiences to Mo and Brian; a picture-perfect DC couple. They're smart, they're witty, and they have a beautifully remodeled kitchen. But when Mo's best friend Patti announces she's found Jesus and is putting her career on hold to be a wife and mother, Mo must take a closer look at the harder truths surrounding her own marriage."

Other members of the creative team include scenic designer James Kronzer, lighting designer Cory Ryan Frank, costume designer Frank Labovitz, sound designer Veronika Vorel, properties designer Michelle Elwyn and stage manager Karen Currie.

The production is part of Theater J's new festival, "Locally Grown: Community Supported Art From Our Own Garden," which celebrates the DC area's playwright community. The Locally Grown Festival also features workshop presentations of The Prostate Dialogues, a new solo performance piece by established artist Jon Spelman; and readings of four new works by local playwrights Jacqueline Lawton, Stephen Spotswood, Gwydion Suilebhan and performance artist Laura Zam. Theater J presents contemporary work alongside revivals and is a home for the development and production of new work by major writers and emerging artists.
