"Rabbit Season" features two live stage productions for kids, The Velveteen Rabbit and Bunnicula, each of which will play a limited ten-week engagement at Off-Broadway's DR2 Theatre, located at 103 East 15th Street.

Written and directed by Drama Desk Award nominee Kevin Del Aguila, The Velveteen Rabbit, which is recommended for audiences ages 4-8, will run Nov. 16, 2012-Jan. 27, 2013. Based on the popular children's novel by Margery Williams, the production features scenic design by Lake Simmons and costume design by Patrick Johnson.

"With a little bit of nursery magic (and a whole lot of audience participation)," press notes state, "three actors and their simple props transform into a wise old rocking horse, a cavalcade of mechanical playthings, a kind-hearted fairy and, of course, a stuffed rabbit who is transformed by the love of a young boy."

Based on the acclaimed children's book series by Deborah and James Howe, Bunnicula features a book by Tony Award nominee Charles Busch, music by Sam Davis and lyrics by Drama Desk nominee Mark Waldrop. Performances are scheduled for Feb. 8-April 14.

Directed by Carl Andress, the new musical will have choreography by Connor Gallagher, scenic design by Rob Odorisio, costume design by Lortel Award winner Gregory Gale, orchestrations by Greg Pliska and musical direction by James Cunningham. The musical, which is recommended for ages 5-12, is described as such: "One dark and stormy night, the Monroe family brings home an orphaned rabbit with mysterious habits and sharp fangs. Could this new member of the family possibly be a vampire?"

Casting for both productions will be announced soon.

Show times are Friday at 5 PM, Saturday at 11 AM, 1 PM and 4 PM and Sunday at 11 AM, 1 PM and 4 PM.
