News It's The Violet Hour at Barrington Stage Company Beginning July 17 Richard Greenberg's The Violet Hour, which played a brief run at Broadway's Biltmore Theatre in 2003, begins performances at the Barrington Stage Company July 17.

Directed by Barry Edelstein, the cast features Austin Lysy (John Pace Seavering), Brian Avers (Denny), Opal Alladin (Jessie), Heidi Armbruster (Rosamund) and Nat Dewolf (Gidger). Opening night is scheduled for July 20; the limited engagement will run through Aug. 2.

The Violet Hour, according to press notes, concerns "a driven young publisher at the start of his career and the mysterious machine that arrives that could radically change his future."

The design team comprises Wilson Chin (sets), Jessica Ford (costumes), Chris Lee (lighting) and Matt Nielson (sound).

The Violet Hour, directed by Evan Yionoulis, played 23 previews and 54 regular performances at Broadway's Biltmore Theatre in 2003. The cast featured Mario Cantone, Dagmara Dominczyk, Scott Foley, Robert Sean Leonard and Robin Miles.

Playwright Richard Greenberg is also the author of Eastern Standard, Dance of Death, A Naked Girl on the Appian Way, Three Days of Rain and the Tony-winning Take Me Out. He will be represented on Broadway this season with The American Plan and Pal Joey (he's rewritten the libretto). The Barrington Stage Company is located in Pittsfield, MA.
